Volunteering abroad with DIVOG can be a terrific way to spend your spring, winter or summer break. We can accommodate large groups of students, or just you and a few friends. Work hands-on to make a lasting difference in your host community and also enjoy the beautiful and exciting Ghanaian beaches, wildlife reserves, and historical landmarks. After working with local masons and builders on the construction of a classroom or latrine, escape to Takoradi Beach and enjoy the extremely affordable beachside bars and accommodations. Whether you’re interested in a meaningful ten day spring break option or a two-month summer opportunity, DIVOG has a program to match your inspiration.

Christinas ghanesiske eventyr

Families Vacation or Responsible Group Travel Program

Many of our volunteers are families who travel together to Ghana, returning home with an experience that shaped each member in a unique, powerful way. Volunteering abroad is a terrific way to provide children with exposure to life in an underdeveloped community, where education and clean water aren’t always a part of the daily routine. Your kids will have the opportunity to learn about community collaboration, problem solving, and the obstacles faced by less fortunate communities around the world. Everyone in the family will have the chance to contribute and make a difference, whether you’d prefer to mix cement, help out at a local orphanage, or teach English or arithmetic in the primary school. Our volunteer abroad programs will provide you and the kids with plenty of R&R, but you’ll have the unique opportunity of returning home refreshed and inspired knowing you made a difference with your time off. Wildlife reserves, artisan workshops, and breathtaking waterfalls are just a few of the destinations you can explore while volunteering in Ghana. No matter which program your family chooses, DIVOG will make sure the experience is unforgettable.

The Orphanage Volunteer Program allows you to work hands-on with underprivileged children in our partner orphanages, providing each child with your love, care, and attention. Sadly, most of these facilities are poorly resourced and under-staffed; compassionate volunteers are desperately needed to help provide the basic needs of these children. Volunteer duties will vary both on the needs of the orphanage and the skills/interests of the volunteer. As an Orphanage Volunteer, your daily activities may include:

teaching

counseling

discussing cultural views

health and hygiene education

mental and physiological support

assisting orphanage admin

cooking

playing (of course!)

Volunteers are typically accommodated at the orphanage itself; occasionally volunteers placed with a neighboring host family due to the limited resources and facilities of the orphanages. These orphanages have been sustained thanks to the generosity and kindness of our volunteers – please join us in supporting this worthy cause!

Volunteers who choose to spend time at our partner orphanages are blown away. Spending every minute of your day living side-by-side with the amazing kids at Drifting Angels Orphanage is an experience you’ll never forget. Orphanage volunteers typically enjoy 2-3 week placements, so they have the opportunity to really get to know the kids and orphanage staff. Either myself or one of the other DIVOG staff members will spend the first day or two with you at the orphanage, but then we’ll get out the way and let you fully immerse yourself! Volunteers will spend some of the day helping with the daily chores, which frees up time for the children to read and study for school. You can also help teach in the classroom and/or aid the children in their after-school studies. Probably the most memorable aspects of orphanage volunteering will be the downtime you have with the kids, sharing with them your story and letting them tell you theirs. Our partner orphanages have made significant efforts towards self-sustainability (mostly by operating farms where the profits go towards food and other costs for the kids), but they still need our help. As an Orphanage Volunteer, part of your program fees will go towards supporting the food, water, and basic costs for these hard-working, amazing kids. As mentioned on our website, all of our programs are completely customizable, so we try to not offer blanket costs for programs that might not be exactly what you want. However, as a baseline, here’s a rough idea of the program fees for Orphanage Volunteering:

Length of Stay: open

Accommodations: Three meals a day, housing at the orphanage or neighboring home

Included: Airport pick-up/drop-off, transportation to/from orphanage, several day trips to local destinations (Wli Waterfalls, Kente Weavers, Monkey Sanctuary, et al), and Secret DIVOG Gift

Cost Details Send Inquiry

We can adjust this program package however you would like, but hopefully this basic estimate helps!

Building Voluntary WorkCamp Ghana,Africa

In Ghana, most rural communities lack sufficient infrastructure, as the inadequate sanitation and educational facilities directly impede development, hygiene, and progress. Toilets, school buildings, libraries, and potable drinking water are missing in many of our neighboring communities. For over nine years DIVOG has been connecting international volunteers and committed rural communities to solve these issues. As a Construction Volunteer in Summer, you can empower rural growth in two ways:

1) your program fees go towards construction material costs

2) you’ll be working side-by-side with local villagers on the project itself!

Digging, mixing sand and cement, carrying rocks and bricks, fetching water, painting, and bricklaying are a few of the duties you can take on, as you’re led by, and work with, skilled workers from the village who are also volunteering their time and energy. This experience can provide you with a new perspective of the massive obstacles that prevent growth in these rural communities, where resources are inaccessible and household incomes are low. Participating in the hands-on construction of fundamental infrastructure improves hygiene, education, and overall well-being—join DIVOG in our efforts to improve these conditions and educate Ghana’s youth about the mutual benefits of volunteerism!
