Why you should be volunteering abroad with DIVOG

There are lot of volunteer abroad program organizations both locally and internationally offering offering volunteering solutions packages but the question is whether you should choose a locally based non profit or not.

For us at Disaster Volunteers of Ghana, the competition from other organizations offering similar programmes resides in the background. As a locally based Ngo in Ghana and working for the past ten years,we believe in our abilities to help solve problems with the help of volunteers both locally and foreign. We do understand your concerns traveling abroad to volunteer but think of it this way, dont you think the organisation based locally in your destination country understands the risk better than one that sit in your country and organizes an adventure trip abroad for you?

Volunteering abroad is a great adventure and Disaster Volunteers of Ghana understands this from ten years of experience and we would plan your volunteer abroad program trip with you which are worthwhile, entertaining and fulfilling.

As a recognized leader in international volunteer abroad program promoting inter-cultural immersion projects,we strive to make your experience on your volunteer work abroad the best among the competitors. We have various project opportunities both in the typical rural areas and the urban cities of Ghana. We plan your trip with you from the beginning that is the main reason why you should have the power to choose your own duration and travel dates. Let us plan your perfect volunteer abroad program for you in Ghana,Africa.

From the moment of arrival to the point of departure the trip was clearly and well laid out.A detailed itinerary was provided and adhered to.The amount of work and variety of task open to the students was well suited to our group’s age and abilities. The extremely open and welcoming local community made intergration with the local families seemless and enjoyable .Our trip host (Robert and Richard) were, without exception, courteous and professional and always willing to do their best on our behalf. The food and accommodation provided sufficient amenities yet were sufficiently rustic to provide a true Ghanaian experience. We thoroughly enjoyed the trip.

Internet Marketing and Foreign calls Intern

Host Company: Disaster Volunteers of Ghana

Location: Disaster Volunteers of Ghana, Ghana, HO, Volta Region (Office)

Dates of Internship: Open (maximum stay of 2 months)

Cost: DIVOG does not charge for this intern program, we rather give you free accommodation and free breakfast during your stay.

Organization Description:Disaster Volunteers of Ghana (DIVOG or DIVOG prides itself of being Ghana’s premier youth volunteering organization for challenging young people to do their share as global citizens. Opening your doors to DIVOG is a unique avenue to “extend…classrooms out into the world, and invite the world into…classrooms.”

DIVOG is a registered non-governmental organization servicing the southeastern region of Ghana. Our mission is to improve the living standards of Ghana’s rural poor through quality education. DIVOG’s premise is that Ghanaian children are the future of our country; their education is our utmost priority.

Most communities in Ghana do not have basic physical infrastructure, such as suitable school buildings. Currently, many Ghanaian students are forced to learn in school structures that are not conducive for learning while others simply do not attend school due to their families’ inability to pay for the necessary books and uniforms. In particular, schools in rural areas are under-equipped and understaffed. It is common to see students carrying household chairs and tables to use in schools. On the other hand, it is normal to find a ten-year-old teaching her class because of a shortage of teachers. To compensate for such deficiencies DIVOG recruits volunteers to build schools, and to teach various subjects including, math, science, English, arts and ICT at both elementary and secondary schools.

Our other priorities include building orphanages and outdoor school sanitation facilities; construction of boreholes/safe water facilities, and enlisting medical students/professionals in the capacity of volunteers at medical facilities. Our volunteers work alongside community volunteers and professionals during construction of all our projects. At the orphanages, volunteers work as caregivers to provide homework assistance, teach health and hygiene, and help wards develop the skills to set and pursue goals.

Internship Description:

Disaster Volunteers of Ghana has an IT department which manages its website and does most of the SEO needed on the website and thus creates web presence. The intern is needed to compliments the efforts of this department by improving the web presence and also marketing the website to a larger audience with the most cost effective and better option that the intern comes up with the IT department.

The intern is also expected to answer all incoming foreign calls and follow up on would be volunteers in order to secure their participation. Other duties to be performed per assigned by the head of IT department.

Skill & Experience Required:

Interns at Disaster Volunteers of Ghana should have a passion for grassroots Ngo or nonprofit work and engaging people from the world. Interns should also have knowledge in leading website design technologies and tools with advanced knowledge in Search Engine Optimization. Intern should have strong persuasive powers, interpersonal and writing skills.

Sample Projects:

Interns will help with Disaster Volunteers of Ghana’s marketing and web presence creation, writing targeted emails and newsletter. S/he will write marketing plans, conveying the Disaster Volunteers of Ghana’s story to a broader international audience. Other projects may include expanding Disaster Volunteers of Ghana’s social media presence on Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn, as well as managing website content using related software. Intern should be able to convert would be volunteers into confirmed volunteers within the shortest possible time frame.

Benefits for Intern:

Interns will gain professional experience working for a nonprofit or charity marketing communications skill by creating a broad variety of marketing content: newsletters, social media, report writing, website management and more.

Benefits for Company:

Disaster Volunteers of Ghana seeks to grow its Business Networks especially using the internet as the cheapest mediums and increase the number of volunteers that we serve in a year. The intern’s work will help maintain existing volunteer and help bring new volunteers into the network, and let interested people know we are a better alternative to partner with in volunteering.

First twins to volunteer on DIVOG’s Volunteer Programs

Kistoffer Engkilde and Laerke Engkilde first trip to Africa, and Ghana, was a truly unforgettable experience and an eye-opener to the world outside of Europe. Arriving there, we were welcomed by such hospitality and friendliness by both the members of DIVOG and the village of Abutia-Hlove. Our work there mainly consisted of constructing a sanitation clinic and teaching the local kids, whom responded with such enthusiasm to learning.

My favorite part of the DIVOG experience was the freedom that we had to not only teach or build for the whole day, but also to interact with the local families and get a different perspective on Ghanaian culture. I was also very pleased about the food, as I had been speculating about it before the trip, but it turned out, in my opinion, to be just as good as the food I get at home (although a bit spicy at times ).

As for the team itself, I couldn’t have asked for a better team to follow and take care of us, as they constantly strived to deliver their outmost in order to better our experience, while having fun and enjoyable personalities.

I would like to thank DIVOG for organizing such a memorable trip, and hopefully it won’t be long before I come back and visit Ghana for a second time.

(although a bit spicy at times ).

Family Volunteers of the Month- Service Programs in Ghana

Maartje was a former volunteer with disaster volunteers of Ghana; she worked on the teaching and construction project for a week with other volunteers from the United States of America. She is an artist who fell in love with the scenery of Ghana and she asked to be given the opportunity to volunteer with her family in the coming year.

True to her words in the month of love February, she confirmed her flight to Ghana to volunteer responsibly with her family. For the confidence that she had in the organization, she arrived with her son and the twins of her friend who also fell in love with Ghana

Their work had a great impact in the village of Abutia-Hlorve where they worked on the construction of a washroom for the local school as part of Disaster Volunteers of Ghana’s hygiene is my health project. Their stay was culturally meaningful and made a difference in the hygiene of the community.

Christinas ghanesiske eventyr-frivilligt arbejde i udlandet
