Akwaaba Ryan Wilkerson(USA),Our first volunteer of the year 2012
“I am very excited to volunteer with Disaster Volunteers of Ghana(DIVOG) as it provides an opportunity to experience a new culture and new service opportunities. While i hope to make a difference for those i work with,i am almost excited to learn from them.I know each person will have so much to teach me,and i am eager to learn more about the culture of Ghana.
While i have not been in Ghana for long, the men at Disaster Volunteers of Ghana have already been so accommodating and have made my first experience to Africa all i could hope for.I am excited for these next three weeks,as i head to an orphanage.Through this experience i will be living with a host family, giving me an opportunity to work with the children, both within the school and outside the school.
On the weekends,i will be visiting several of the areas around my village, taking in all that the Volta region of Ghana has to offer. From what little i have seen so far,i can already tell this is a beautiful nation with a rich and vibrant culture”
